Grant-in-Aid Programme

Why Grant-in-Aid?

A rapidly changing society demands a proactive government with proactive program and policies. Challenges faced by society cannot be tackled by Government alone. A successful partnership is essential in addressing these challenges and the grant-in-aid program aims to achieve this goal. The purpose of this programme is thereby enabling them to undertake actions and services to improve the standard of living of the communities, resulting in an improvement in the quality of life for those communities.

What does Grant-in-Aid entail?

There are two types of grants given to non-profit civil society organizations. These are sundry and ad-hoc grants. Sundry grants category is where applications are invited on an annual basis. The advert invites applications from four sectors namely, Social Welfare, Early Childhood Education, Sports and Culture and Economic empowerment. Applicants are requested to complete an application form and submit all the relevant information and documents prior to a specific closing date. Essential information needed to accompany application forms include: the constitution, financials, copies of identity documents, business plan and registration certificate. We provide free training to organizations if assistance is needed on any of the above areas. Ad hoc grants category considers applications that take the form of requests to host and hold events and once off projects.

Policy Development
Any organization needs to have policies that govern its life. Since community participation has become a new way of doing business in local government, it is important that community makes input into Council policies.

What does Policy Development entail?

We work hand-in-hand with Corporate Policy Unit in developing policies to inform programmes and projects that we implement. Some of these policies include:

  • Community Participation Policy
  • Grant-in-Aid Policy
  • Gender Policy (Draft)
  • Youth Policy
  • Indigents Policy (Draft)
  • Vulnerable Groups Policy
Besides the above policies, we also advocate active participation of relevant stakeholders in any policy that is being developed or reviewed.
