BUYING PROCEDURE

To be able to purchase at Durban Fresh Produce Market, a buyer has to apply for a personalized buying card to be utilized for all purchases at the market. Should a buyer not have an ID book on the day they wish to buy, the market will issue a temporary card effective for that day only.

How to apply for a personalised buyer’s card?
  • Collect a buyer card application form at our customer information desk in our Sales Hall outside the cashiers or download the application form below.

Buyer Card Application Form (English)
  • Complete the application form in full, sign it and hand in together with a certified copy of your Identity Document and proof of residential address. In the case of a business buyer’s card, a copy of business registration documents is required.
  • Your card will be available for collection within 2 working days. Collect your buyer’s card with you unique buyer account number from Enquiries counter at the Market Cashiers.
Depositing money into your buyer account
  • Cash can be deposited at the Market Cashiers.
  • Electronic direct depositing facility located at the cashiering complex.
  • Process an Electronic Fund Transfer to the market’s bank account below and include your buyer card number as reference.
  • Cash deposits can be done at any Nedbank branch, the details are as follows:

  • To credit your buyer account, hand your deposit slips to the credit cashier, fax your deposit slip/proof of payment to fax no. 086 402 2740 or email to bulkmarket.cashiers@durban.gov.za
HOW TO BUY?
  • Choose the produce and quantity that you want to purchase from any of our six market agents.
  • Approach a salesperson with your request, you will then be handed a docket with your request printed on it.
  • Hand this docket together with your buying card to the official at the computer terminal on the sales floor where you selected your produce.
  • Your sale will be processed and you will be issued with a produce removal note with your name printed on it. The produce removal note will allow you to remove produce from market agents’ sales floors and sales halls.
  • After each purchase your account will be automatically updated. The new balance is reflected on your docket/removal note, which you will receive after each purchase.
  • When you are finished buying you can leave the balance of your money in the account or you may withdraw it.
  • Withdrawals can only be processed by the account holder subject to producing an Identity Document.
LOST / STOLEN CARDS
  • Report lost or stolen cards immediately to the Customer Information Desk in the Sales Hall or to the Market Cashiers or you may call 031-311 5100.
  • Replacement fees are applicable for all lost, stolen or damaged cards.
