Public Service Month
BATHO PELE COMPETITION 

EThekwini Municipality’s Batho Pele Office and Sizakala Unit in its efforts to promote and enhance Customer Services to improve service delivery are holding a competition in the following categories. Here’s how to enter:

CATEGORIES:

1. PUBLIC SERVANT
All eThekwini Municipality employees from Task Grade 03 to 12 and Provincial Department officials from Equate Level 1 to 9, who are based in offices located within the eThekwini Municipality’s boundaries.
Question
Of the 11 Batho Pele Principles, choose 5, link them to one another and relate how you can make them operational, giving practical examples. 

2. ETHEKWINI CITIZENS
All citizens over the age of 18, excluding government employees, residing within the eThekwini Municipality’s boundaries. Proof of address from your Ward Councillor or Municipal utility bill should be attached to all entries. School learners are exempted from the requirement to submit proof of address.
Question
Of the 11 Batho Pele Principles, choose only 5 and align them with services you have received from any department within the Municipality and where possible attach evidence.

3. SCHOOL LEARNERS
All learners in schools within the eThekwini Municipal boundaries, starting from Grade from 7 to 12. Each entry must have a school stamp and a letter of consent from a parent or guardian.
Question
Of the 11 Batho Pele Principles, choose 5 and match them with services you have received from a Municipal department e.g. Health Education, Solid Waste, Scholar Patrols, Library, Sports & Recreation Services etc. 
THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY:

Entrants:

1. Must be Council or Provincial Government employees with Service or Persal numbers.
2. Must not be in any supervisory or management post.
3. Must not be Batho Pele champion at any level.
4. Must not be family members of Batho Pele champions.
4. Must not be have been suspended or disciplined or given a sanction for misconduct in the last 5 years.
5. Prizes are non-negotiable.
6. Any citizen or public servant who owes a debt to the Municipality will not be eligible to enter the competition. 
7. Winners will be contacted telephonically.
8. The official awarding will be done at City Hall.

To enter 
Entrants must write out their answers, seal them in envelopes, clearly mark them: Batho Pele Competition and drop them off at the Batho Pele Office on the 8th Floor, Shell House, Durban or at any Sizakala Centre. Alternatively, entries can be emailed to  bathopele.office@durban.gov.za and acknowledgements of receipt will be sent via return email within 3 days of receipt.
