VERGE CUTTING AT RESIDENTIAL AREAS CONTINUES
EThekwini Municipality would like to inform all residents that the verge cutting service by the Council will be continued and verges in residential areas will be cut, as has been happening in previous years.

Verge cutting in residential areas will be done according to a pre-set schedule.  The first cycle of verge cutting already took place in October and Municipal workers are in the middle of the second cycle.  A cycle lasts an average of six weeks and the timing is influenced by weather conditions. For instance, if it rains, verges cannot be cut and this prolongs a cycle.

After the Municipality announced that it was stopping the cutting of verges in residential areas, the issue had to be revised due to an outcry by the community.  The Municipality feels that this is indeed an essential service, which contributes to the improvement of people’s lives, security and beautifies the area.

Residents who have any inquiries about the cutting of their verges are urged to contact their local Sikazala centres for assistance.

For more information contact Chairman of Health, Safety and Social services Committee, Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala on 031 311 2006 or email: shabalalanf@durban.gov.za
