EThekwini celebrates Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's life
EThekwini Municipality in collaboration with the Provincial government and other stakeholders will hold a memorial service in honour of struggle hero Mama Winnie Madikizela- Mandela, on Thursday, 12 April 2018 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Mama Winnie Madikizela- Mandela is a struggle stalwart and former Member of Parliament who dedicated her life in the fight against the brutal apartheid state.

Mayor Zandile Gumede has invited all eThekwini residents to join the City in celebrating the mother of the nation. Mayor Gumede said Mama Winnie stood up for human rights. “We will remember her as the avid campaigner for women’s rights, who understood the dialectical connection between women and the national oppression and the need to wage these struggles in tandem”

A condolence book has been placed at the Durban City Hall Church Square entrance. Members of the public are urged to come and express their condolences for Mama Winnie.

Meanwhile, the Municipality will host a choral music festival on Friday, 13 April at Durban City Hall to pay tribute to Mama Winnie Madikizela- Mandela’s legacy. This is to show that choral music has always been at the centre of South African heritage and is an activity in which the majority of South Africans have always participated in. The ceremony is open to the public.
