Mayor hands over title deeds to 50 families
EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede, Councillor Bheki
Mngwengwe and the Principal Project Officer at the
Municipality’s Conveyancing Department, Zandile
handing over title deeds to 50 families of Ward 83 in
uMlazi.
THERE was sheer joy and excitement when eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede handed over title deeds to 50 families of Ward 83 in uMlazi on 11 July. One of the beneficiaries, Bawinile Duma who as beaming from ear to ear said she had waited for over 10 years for the day.

The wait, she said, was certainly worth it as she is now a proud home owner. “I battled for years for my title deed, but today I am a proud owner of the house that I have lived in for years.

I want to thank Mayor Gumede and Councillor Bheki Mgwengwe for making this possible for us,”said Duma who couldn’t hide her excitement. Mayor Gumede said title deeds are not just a piece of paper, but are legal documents that give recipients ownerships of their houses. “It is important that our people enjoy the fruits of democracy and the freedom that they fought for.

During the apartheid era, our people would wait for years for their title deeds and as caring Municipality, we want to correct that. Our people don’t have to wait for years to receive their title deeds, hence we are fast tracking the process of issuing title deeds,” she said.

The Principal Project Officer at the Municipality’s Conveyancing Department Zandile Mahlalela said the Municipality is working tirelessly to fast-track the process of issuing title deeds. “We are based at the Shell House Building on the first floor and we want to encourage those that still don’t have title deeds to visit our offices so that they can be assisted,” said Mahlalela.
